[00:00:41] Speaker A: Hey there, everyone. Welcome to episode 39 of the Cracked Eye podcast. This is Anwar. I play temid on the show. Thanks so much for tuning in again in. So this is yet another episode where we record remotely in order to do our part by continuing to practice social distancing rules. So I'm coming at you live from, well, not really live, but I'm coming at you from my wife's closet, which is the best place to record from, but it's very cramped, so I'm getting a cramp. Anyways, enough of me complaining. Pizocon 2020 online ended last week. It ended on the 31 May. I hope everyone had a great time nerding out with other people who just kind of understand you. But speaking of fun, we here at the Cracked Die podcast expanding. As Matt told you last week, we are starting up a Twitch channel where we will be streaming content, and luckily for you, my schedule doesn't allow me to be a part of it, which bums me out a little bit because I really like playing with this group, and that kind of brings me to another point that I wanted to make. This podcast has become a lot bigger, where at least I initially thought it would go. It started off as a hobby for a lot of us, and this has become a place where we're able to interact with more and more people and spread the fun that we're having. And really, for me, every time I walk away from a game or a session with this group, I walk away with a much lighter heart and with a smile on my face. And it's because of how much fun I'm having with this group. And that comes across, hopefully when we play, and that's not going to change. [00:02:22] Speaker B: With this new twitch stream. [00:02:23] Speaker A: In fact, it'll probably be even more fun because there's a lot of stuff that gets cut out that's fun but doesn't make sense in the story, or there's a lot of facial expressions and people being silly, and you're going to see that with this new twitch stream that we're putting together. And on that note, I do hope that many of you who listen to us kind of take that away, too. The fun that we're having, hopefully that spreads to you and you feel like you're at the table with us and you share our inside jokes, because that's really what we're going for. We want to try to bring, especially in these difficult times that we're in at the moment. We try to bring a little bit of joy into other people's lives because we realize that we now make an impact on so many people who listen to us regularly and who are participating with us by sending us mail and interacting with us on our socials and hopefully watching our fledgling twitch stream. But anyways, I'm going to get off my soapbox and stop talking about how much I like my crew. Don't tell them that, though, because I kind of want them to think that I hate them. Anyways, enjoy episode 39. We had a lot of fun making it. [00:03:34] Speaker C: Previously on the Cracked Die podcast. Our heroes partook in a variety of games and challenges, celebrating their time with the ekuje elves, while pond watcher partook in a pepper reading contest. Tamed and Sareia talked and drank with some of the locals to finish the preparations for the feast. Most of our heroes headed out on a group hunt to gather food. After that, our heroes met with the twitters of the tribe, the twin leopards. No relation. Talon. What will they learn now? Find out now on the Cracked Die podcast. [00:04:15] Speaker D: Welcome to the 39th episode of the Cracked Die podcast. [00:04:24] Speaker E: All right. [00:04:24] Speaker A: Wait, what podcast are you talking about? [00:04:27] Speaker D: Cracked die podcast. [00:04:29] Speaker A: I think I'm in the wrong chat. [00:04:30] Speaker F: Yeah, you're meant to be the cracked die podcast, I think. Anwar. [00:04:34] Speaker A: Yeah, crack Eddie is my. [00:04:36] Speaker F: No, no, just cut the mic. Mute him. Mute him. [00:04:40] Speaker D: So how is everyone's social distancing going? [00:04:43] Speaker E: Distancing? [00:04:45] Speaker G: Great. [00:04:47] Speaker D: Acceptable. [00:04:49] Speaker H: I live in queens. So not. [00:04:52] Speaker E: No. [00:04:54] Speaker D: You guys have parties on your blocks every. [00:04:57] Speaker H: Yeah, yeah. No, we just have kissing parties. [00:05:00] Speaker G: You just have what? [00:05:02] Speaker D: You have kissing what? [00:05:03] Speaker H: We have kissing parties every night on the street. [00:05:07] Speaker E: Yeah, just open mouth tongue kisses for everybody. Everyone you walk by. Spread the love. [00:05:14] Speaker D: No, but anyway, let's get down to business. [00:05:20] Speaker F: To defeat the hawk. [00:05:26] Speaker D: Yes, that is correct. [00:05:28] Speaker F: How many hero points do I get for that? [00:05:30] Speaker D: When we last left. When we last left. I'm looking at my notes. I'm just going to put this on aside here. My notes say, tuba, portals, rocks, necklace, twin leopards. [00:05:53] Speaker G: So we just met twin leopards who were two people. [00:05:58] Speaker F: Yes. [00:06:00] Speaker D: My notes are terrible. Okay. [00:06:05] Speaker G: Pond watcher bought a tuba. [00:06:07] Speaker D: That's right. Yes. [00:06:08] Speaker E: That was like a while ago, though. [00:06:09] Speaker D: I thought. [00:06:10] Speaker G: Yeah, I don't know why that would be from last episode. [00:06:12] Speaker H: I think that was the spoilers without context, too, about portal. [00:06:17] Speaker E: Yeah, sometimes that is. [00:06:19] Speaker D: I have the number 32 above it. So when we last left, you had just met the twin leopards of the rulers of the Leopard clan. And I believe you got their names right. [00:06:38] Speaker A: Any relation to twin Talon? [00:06:40] Speaker D: No, unfortunately not. Twin Talon is but one man. Or is he two dwarves in a trench coat. We're not quite sure yet. These are two separate elves. [00:06:55] Speaker F: As his childhood friend, I can confirm it's actually two dwarves in a trench coat. [00:07:01] Speaker A: I thought he was halfling brothers. [00:07:04] Speaker G: I would love to play a character who was two dwarves on top of each other. And depending on which orbs on top, your stats would be different. [00:07:14] Speaker E: Oh, my God. That'd be amazing. Once we get, like, vigilance and 2.0 and you have your alternate identity. [00:07:21] Speaker G: Oh, yeah. [00:07:22] Speaker F: Be pretty cool. I did like the idea of having two halfling brothers because then we can then tie it in to the stuff that people didn't actually ever hear, because we did have two halfling brothers who were freaking amazing. [00:07:39] Speaker E: They were probably the best part about that campaign. [00:07:42] Speaker A: Yeah, they were. Okay. [00:07:45] Speaker F: You're too modest. [00:07:46] Speaker H: I love them. [00:07:53] Speaker F: Sorry, Sean, I keep interrupting you. [00:07:55] Speaker D: Go ahead. You met the twin leopards who are in charge of the leopard clan, OC Panin and Oc Atasu. [00:08:07] Speaker E: I definitely did not get those names. [00:08:09] Speaker D: One OC panin wears a pattern of green dress and copper jewelry studded with uncut gems, while Osi Atu wears a dark blue tunic covered with amulets wrapped in copper and green cloth. Both twins wear black leather sandals decorated with copper amulets and have long hair arranged in thick blocks. They looked at you and they asked you, what are you doing here? [00:08:36] Speaker G: I thought we started answering that question. [00:08:39] Speaker E: I think he said he's going to give us a week to think about. [00:08:42] Speaker D: Oh, yeah. [00:08:45] Speaker G: I've been thinking super hard. [00:08:47] Speaker D: I can tell. [00:08:48] Speaker H: We are so ready for this diplomatic endeavor. [00:08:52] Speaker E: Yeah, clearly. [00:08:54] Speaker A: So I think what we were talking about is twin town is going to stab one of them, right? I think that's what we started off. [00:09:00] Speaker E: Oh, my God. [00:09:01] Speaker F: So Brienna will step in as a voice of reason for once, and kind of bow in her fashion in Corvos and just kind of a nightly courtly bow and say, forgive me, good deeders. We come through the portal. [00:09:22] Speaker E: The hunter's gate, I believe. [00:09:24] Speaker F: Through the hunter's gate. Thank you so much, Sareia. In truth, we were simply trying to follow a lead of the churuka and the Bhagats. Go ahead, Soraya. [00:09:36] Speaker E: She's going to step up next to Brianna and say, the Cinderclaws that I have heard have wreaked some havoc for your people actually did make it through the portal to where we are in Breech Hill. And we managed to open the portal again and came back through. And that's where we met Jahassi and some of your other lovely people. And really, they've been just as much of a nuisance for us as they have been for you, if what I've been hearing is right. And as for the rest of it, we're hoping to eventually maybe solve the mystery of all the rest of the portals in Estella's ring. [00:10:13] Speaker D: They slowly nod to each other, and to you, they are only speaking Moangi, so the speaker is translating for you. Niketia is the one translating for you out of Moangi, because I don't think anyone speaks Moangi. [00:10:33] Speaker E: No. I might have to pick that up. [00:10:36] Speaker D: Oc Atsu looks at you and asks, who are you? [00:10:40] Speaker E: She's kind of going to look over her shoulder at. Very motley group. And we are technically, I suppose, we're heroes of Brie Chittle, but just adventurers. Does anyone disagree? She's going to look over her shoulder like anyone else. Got anything to say about that? I'm sure if Silver was here, he'd be going off on us about the prince who was promised and everything, but I'm sure. [00:11:10] Speaker H: Well, we done the royal retinue. The priest hume was promised. [00:11:17] Speaker E: Yes. My friend here is another elf from the far north. I'm a little bit more in the temperate regions. [00:11:26] Speaker D: What makes you heroes? Oc panin asks. [00:11:32] Speaker G: Well, we kicked the cinder claws out of the area around the town, which we currently call home. So in their eyes, we're heroes. [00:11:46] Speaker A: We also stopped a fire from spreading through the town hall. [00:11:51] Speaker D: You see their brows furrow. So you are all fighters and combatants and warriors? [00:12:00] Speaker H: Yes. [00:12:01] Speaker A: Not all of us know. [00:12:03] Speaker D: What do you do then? [00:12:04] Speaker A: I drink and I heal people. And I fight a little bit. In that order. [00:12:09] Speaker G: Accurate. [00:12:10] Speaker F: He keeps us alive. [00:12:12] Speaker D: Interesting. [00:12:14] Speaker E: That is very true. He does drink first and keep people alive second. [00:12:17] Speaker A: And then he continues to drink. [00:12:21] Speaker D: May we ask you to demonstrate some of your skills? [00:12:26] Speaker A: He drinks some more. [00:12:30] Speaker H: That was a very easy challenge. [00:12:32] Speaker A: He looks around and temed checks to see if anyone seems to have any type of injury. [00:12:39] Speaker D: You notice that there are some. They gesture forward, and they bring an elf out who looks like he has been on the receiving side of a Cinderclaw attack. [00:12:53] Speaker A: Okay, so he'll just do a medicine check to try to heal him. [00:12:58] Speaker D: All right, give me a medicine check. [00:13:00] Speaker A: I need to find it on the sheet. Okay, I'm clicking on it. What did I get? [00:13:05] Speaker D: 1616. [00:13:07] Speaker A: All right, so I pass. [00:13:09] Speaker D: So then go ahead and try and heal. And while he's doing that, what are you, all the rest of you, doing? You, large one with the halberd? [00:13:20] Speaker H: Yes. I sometimes hit people with a halbird and I rage and I swing my thing around like a cool martial arts guy. [00:13:31] Speaker D: One of them throws a target at you, give me an attack roll. [00:13:36] Speaker H: Oh, boy. 29. [00:13:39] Speaker D: Yeah, you swing right through this clay. What do they call, like a clay pigeon? Yeah, you swing and you shatter this thing into dust. [00:13:57] Speaker A: If it helps, I healed a total of four hit points. [00:14:00] Speaker D: You see that the wounds start to close up a little bit and you see them nodding and smiling. What are the other three doing? Sareia, twin Talon and Brianna. Are the rest of you fighters at least? [00:14:15] Speaker F: Yes, somewhat. I am at least. I serve the lady Serende as I am her champion. [00:14:22] Speaker D: And they throw a clay pigeon at you? Give me an attack. [00:14:25] Speaker F: I'm going to fail this. You know how digital dice feel about me. [00:14:29] Speaker E: No. [00:14:31] Speaker F: Just like plonks around the forehead. [00:14:36] Speaker E: Is that right? [00:14:37] Speaker D: 31. [00:14:39] Speaker F: Damn it. [00:14:42] Speaker A: So that's the opposite of. [00:14:43] Speaker G: She only rolled a 17, guys. It was only a 17. [00:14:47] Speaker F: With your critical success, do I blink? [00:14:50] Speaker E: And it, like, you do the anime style thing where, like, you barely, you. [00:15:01] Speaker D: Swing your scimitar so quickly, the clay pigeon doesn't look like it's been touched, and then it lands on the ground and just crumbles into nothingness. It like, evaporates because it was cut into such small chunks. [00:15:19] Speaker F: Brianna will look over at our lovely pond watcher who had demonstrated beforehand and winks at him like, if only we. [00:15:26] Speaker H: Could only fight people made of clay. [00:15:29] Speaker E: I think that's what clay and training dummies. Yes. [00:15:35] Speaker H: Don't you mention that in front of me again. My favorite enemy. [00:15:43] Speaker D: Twin Talon. What are you doing? Do you want to attack a clay pigeon as well? [00:15:48] Speaker G: I don't know. That twintallen's got his weapons on him. [00:15:50] Speaker D: Is there something else that you would find you're exceptionally good at? [00:15:54] Speaker E: Oh, would you like to speak to a lion that thinks it's a leopard? [00:15:58] Speaker G: Sure. I mean, I don't really talk to animals, but I'm pretty good with animals. [00:16:05] Speaker E: Yes, I'm sure he can meet Harriet sometime. I think her name was. [00:16:10] Speaker D: Yes, we will introduce you to Harriet. And you, ma'am, what do you do? [00:16:18] Speaker E: I am a mage of sort. [00:16:23] Speaker D: You're a mage? Can you do some magic? [00:16:25] Speaker E: Oh, dear Lord, this is going to get interesting. She will pull out some of her reagents and with a flourish, kind of give them a shake and let them give off like a little extra spark of a fireball as she makes an alchemist fire. [00:16:42] Speaker D: Okay, give me a crafting alchemy. Check. [00:16:46] Speaker H: She's a bartender. [00:16:50] Speaker G: That's why temid's staying around. [00:16:52] Speaker E: It's 24. [00:16:54] Speaker D: Okay, so you succeed. And they are impressed by that. [00:17:01] Speaker A: So Temit says, he puts his hand up, he says, I know what you're thinking. You don't want to drink one of those. I tried and it did not turn out well. [00:17:10] Speaker E: Fire water is an expression. It's not. [00:17:13] Speaker A: Well, you should have told me that specifically. [00:17:15] Speaker E: Alchemist fire. I thought that was. Well, no, she wouldn't call. [00:17:19] Speaker A: I thought it would be a fruity drink. [00:17:21] Speaker D: See, Atsu walks up to Brianna and Pond Watcher and looks you both up and down and says, I would like to have a sparring match against the two of you. [00:17:34] Speaker H: Against both of us? [00:17:36] Speaker D: Yes. They bring out rattan weapons that fit your fighting style. So it's a one handed, blunted, scimitar esque rattan weapon and a longer pull arm weapon. [00:17:52] Speaker A: So you're going to be laRping. [00:17:56] Speaker G: So for people that don't know, what is a ratan weapon? [00:17:59] Speaker D: Sean, a ratan weapon is just generally a stick made out of. Normally it's a kendo training weapon with bamboo that looks like a sword. And when you get hit with it, it generally makes a noise and there's a core in it. If you've ever watched pro wrestling, it's what they hit each other over the heads with, and they take the cores out so they break and look way worse than they are. [00:18:26] Speaker H: I think there's something wrong with your weapons here. They seem weak. [00:18:31] Speaker F: No, pond Watcher, I believe it's so we don't actually harm each other. It's simply for sparring. [00:18:41] Speaker H: Yeah, I knew that too. [00:18:45] Speaker F: That's why I'm here to help. [00:18:47] Speaker D: All right, so you have one chance to hit Osiatsu. [00:18:52] Speaker F: Oh, dear. [00:18:53] Speaker H: One single attack roll with a normal modifier. [00:18:59] Speaker D: Normal modifier. [00:19:00] Speaker H: 26. [00:19:02] Speaker D: All right, great. 26 and 28 for Brianna. [00:19:07] Speaker E: Nice. [00:19:08] Speaker D: You both manage to land a blow on ocatsu as they are nimbly ducking and dodging and spinning away. Once you land a hit, they look at you and smile and say, you are indeed very skilled. [00:19:25] Speaker H: You know, for the leader of a tribe, you are willing to get down in the trenches, and I respect that very much. [00:19:33] Speaker F: It is quite admirable. Yes. And the fact that you are able to dodge and weave so nimbly against two opponents that, for lack of a better word, we're truly trying. I don't know about you, Patrick, but, yes, you're quite a skilled warrior yourself. [00:19:49] Speaker D: All right. They smile and say, we are going to go off and prepare for the feast. Please. It should be ready in an hour or so. Make yourselves at home. You are welcome, members of our clan. [00:20:04] Speaker F: Thank you. It is an honor. [00:20:06] Speaker D: Please take this. And there is a dagger that they offer to pond Watcher or Brianna. There's only one dagger though. [00:20:14] Speaker H: Brianna, please, you take it. They gave me a bow of magnificent beauty already. [00:20:20] Speaker F: Are you certain? I have a shield that I was given. [00:20:23] Speaker H: Maybe we can give it to one of these other eds. I don't know if they deserve it. [00:20:28] Speaker E: I heard that. [00:20:30] Speaker A: Ouch. [00:20:31] Speaker G: We're right here. [00:20:35] Speaker H: I have problems controlling the volume of my voice. [00:20:41] Speaker D: So whoever takes it, you can note down you have a plus one. Shifting, striking cold iron dagger. Shit. [00:20:52] Speaker E: Can I have that? So if I don't have any alchemy stuff, I can do something? [00:20:57] Speaker H: I think Saray or twin Talon should definitely take that. [00:21:00] Speaker F: Yeah, for sure. For flavor's sake and moving the story along, I will have Brianna hold on to that and I'll say, I'll be sure to make sure either Serra or twin Talon gets it, whoever wishes it. But thank you. Thank you so much. [00:21:16] Speaker H: Whoa. I just looked that up. That is so awesome. I was looking it up. [00:21:21] Speaker G: What's shifting, dude? Does it change shape? [00:21:24] Speaker H: Yeah, the weapon changes shape to another melee weapon that requires the same number of hands. Okay. That's awesome. [00:21:33] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:21:33] Speaker G: So plus one striking cold iron, plus. [00:21:36] Speaker D: One shifting, striking cold iron dagger, which. [00:21:40] Speaker H: Basically is a cold iron anything. [00:21:42] Speaker D: It's a cold iron one handed weapon. [00:21:44] Speaker G: Right. [00:21:45] Speaker H: That's dope. [00:21:46] Speaker D: So you have about an hour before the feast begins. There was a mention of a leopard. What was it? A lion that thinks it's a leopard. There it is. [00:22:02] Speaker E: Yes. Okay. [00:22:04] Speaker D: Would you like to lead twin Talon over to Harriet? [00:22:08] Speaker E: Sure. [00:22:10] Speaker D: So you approach Harriet and she picks her head up and gives you a good old chuff and looks at you. [00:22:21] Speaker E: Just like a twin challenge. I am correct in thinking these are not typical to this area? Right? [00:22:31] Speaker G: Well, lions don't typically lounge in trees like that. Yes, but I don't know a lot about the mwangi expanse. Hey there, girl. And he'll try to kind of get close to the lion and give her open palms so that she knows he's not going to attack or anything like that. So I guess roll nature? [00:22:54] Speaker D: Yes. [00:22:56] Speaker A: All right. [00:22:56] Speaker G: Fucking hate roll 20. I have not rolled anything good on roll 20. The entire time we've been doing this. [00:23:03] Speaker D: Harriet looks at you and kind of just goes about what it's doing and she seems pretty much at ease. Give me another nature check, please. And this one you get a plus 218. Great. So as you approach her a little bit closer, she does that thing cats do, and she kind of stands up and stretches a little bit. And she turns and looks at you and pounces directly at you, pushing you to the floor. What's your ac, actually? Hang on. [00:23:39] Speaker G: 21. [00:23:39] Speaker D: 21. Okay, so she hits you and knocks you prone onto the ground and starts licking up and down your face. [00:23:52] Speaker E: Well, she's far friendlier with you than she was with me. [00:23:54] Speaker G: All right, I'll try. Know. Rub her face, like on the sides. [00:23:59] Speaker E: Get them kitty cheeks. [00:24:00] Speaker D: Yes. You hear the elves behind you, laughing, ooing and eyeing. And one of them comes up to you and says, an elven. She's not normally this friendly. She must like you. [00:24:11] Speaker E: Do you speak elven Twintellen? [00:24:13] Speaker G: I do. I get the impression since Twintelen's been learning on the road and learning from Soraya and Pond watcher, that he probably understands better than he speaks. [00:24:24] Speaker F: Okay, yeah, that's true. [00:24:26] Speaker G: He'll kind of say back, and, yeah, I feel like you kind of pick it up, and then it's hard to formulate things in your head, so kind of say in the kind of broken. Alvin. I'm typically pretty good with animals, so. [00:24:41] Speaker H: He actually just says, cat. Good. [00:24:43] Speaker G: I'm good with animal. Yes. [00:24:46] Speaker H: Good. [00:24:47] Speaker D: Bear. [00:24:47] Speaker G: One time, four birds. [00:24:53] Speaker H: Me like cat. [00:24:59] Speaker D: All right, so after you manage to get the lion off of you, Harriet bounds away to go hunting. You can only assume. And you hear a whistle that sounds like a bird call come up from the center of the village, signaling that the festival is about to begin. [00:25:21] Speaker G: We should go that way. [00:25:22] Speaker D: So you all head towards where the festival is. Nakedia has a section of seats set aside for you next to the leaders, next to herself. And then next to her are jahasi. Next to Jahasi is Akosa and the rest of the village around them. So I need everyone to give me a make an impression roll. [00:25:49] Speaker G: Is that diplomacy? [00:25:50] Speaker D: Yes, that is a diplomacy. You might have a skill that lets you substitute diplomacy for something else. [00:25:56] Speaker G: I think that's how charming liar works. Right? Anywhere? [00:25:58] Speaker A: Yeah, that's how charming liar works. But I have the same, so it doesn't matter what I rolled. They're both plus ten. [00:26:03] Speaker D: All right. [00:26:04] Speaker H: Oh, boy. [00:26:06] Speaker E: Punhoster is just sweating too much to make a good impression. [00:26:09] Speaker D: So, temid, with your 14 and twin talon with your ten. You guys are enjoying the festival. Warriors are approaching you, speaking in Elvin. Twin Talon. You're trying to translate for them, and you're sharing stories about the boars. And you're really enjoying this meal. The warriors tell you that normally they are a pescatarian society, so meat is very rarely gathered. And when it is, it is for such a festival as this. And they are very impressed by everything you guys have accomplished. Pond watcher with your seven. Oh, boy, you made an impression for sure. [00:26:53] Speaker H: But he's just rambling. It's so goddamn hot here. [00:26:57] Speaker E: How can we leave here? [00:26:59] Speaker H: Even of the trees above the ground, it's still heat rises, right? I mean, what's wrong with you people? [00:27:07] Speaker D: You see a small circle forming away from you, giving you areas to pass through, where you just stand up and leave. Sareia and Brianna, you both rolled an 18. [00:27:22] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:27:22] Speaker D: Nakedia walks over and I'm going to say, you two are sitting next to each other and she kind of leans in and she goes in common. She goes, do you want some gossip? [00:27:35] Speaker E: Always. [00:27:38] Speaker F: Certainly, I suppose. [00:27:41] Speaker D: See my father and his friend Arcosa over there? Nakedia gestures her staff towards where the two elves are speaking quietly to each other. They're both clueless. They have been friends since childhood and been in love for the past ten years, ever since my father helped Akosa recover from his time with the Aspis consortium and Akosa helped my father recover from my mother's death, and neither of them will do anything about it. They both have too many concerns invented in their own minds, and they both worry what my mother would think. I know precisely what my mother would think. She would also think that they are both being clueless. I have let them dance around each other for years, but today I've decided that life is too short, even for elves. Maybe especially for elves. Neketia seems pensive for a moment before she shakes her head and scoffs slightly. The elders here always say it isn't our place to interfere in other people's personal lives. But I am a half elf, so I don't care about that. Why don't you help me turn this festive atmosphere into a romantic one and see if those two can catch a hint. [00:28:56] Speaker F: How can we help? [00:28:57] Speaker E: Absolutely. Are there any kind of courting customs we can help set? What can we do? Soraya is loving this. Also, Christine is just like, I get to be a gay matchmaker. Pathfinder game. This is amazing. [00:29:11] Speaker F: Prinna's a little confused because she doesn't know these people terribly well. She's like, okay, I will take Serea's lead, I suppose, if it's okay with one possible partner. I don't know what elven culture is like, so I'm going to smile and nod? Yes. [00:29:28] Speaker D: So what would you like to do? [00:29:31] Speaker E: Well, I did ask Nikettia if there's any kind of, like, hoarding customs or anything like that. Like, how do people here express interest in each other? [00:29:41] Speaker D: There is not necessarily any customs for that here. Perhaps if you went and spoke with each one of them separately, perhaps you could assess the situation better, see if you can steer the conversation towards their feelings and whatnot. I believe Jahassi is very comfortable with all of you and, of course, seemed to be friendly with that one over there. And she gestures to aunt Watcher, of course. [00:30:14] Speaker E: Brianna, you went out on the hunt, right? [00:30:16] Speaker F: I did. [00:30:18] Speaker E: Okay. So. Well, all right, so dropping back into Surreya. Well, why don't we see if we can kind of do some sort of little, like a thank you to them, seeing as Jahasi was the first one we met and Akoso went on a hunt with all of you, see if we can maybe arrange some kind of thank you meeting with just the two of them and set the tone, gave them to each other. [00:30:42] Speaker F: What? Brianna is terrible at this sort of thing and is mostly clueless. She's also beat red. Just letting you know. [00:30:53] Speaker E: As you can tell, is just like, oh, yes, this is going to be. [00:30:58] Speaker F: But they're sitting next to each other. Wouldn't they be talking together anyway? I don't understand. [00:31:04] Speaker E: We're going to get them alone, just two of them together. Maybe bring. Maybe we'll get temid to get some drinks, and we'll get an especially delicious piece of boar, and we'll see if we can't finally get them to take the hint. [00:31:19] Speaker F: I'll go get the board. That's something I can do. [00:31:23] Speaker E: Okay. [00:31:27] Speaker F: And she'll like scurrying off, not looking at anyone in the face because she's beat red. [00:31:36] Speaker E: So Sareia is trying to assess in the party would be the best for trying to do this kind of thing. And she's like. She's at a little bit of a loss for that, trying to figure out who would be the best help. But I guess she'll just kind of gather. [00:31:51] Speaker H: I mean, swint Allen's pretty subtle, at least. And know a moron like the rest of us. [00:32:02] Speaker D: I will say so she'll get the other three, I will say. Silver stands up, pulls out his guitar. Dick. Oh, no. Guitar. Pulls out his guitar. Well, I just want to give you all a little performance from my people to you people. And he is going to attempt to play a romantic ish song to try and set a more romantic atmosphere. [00:32:35] Speaker E: Just to the whole festival? [00:32:37] Speaker D: In general, yeah. [00:32:38] Speaker E: At large. [00:32:38] Speaker D: Yep. [00:32:39] Speaker H: Oh, my God. Can I please try to accompany him on my tuba? [00:32:42] Speaker E: Please give me a. Noah. Sareia is pulling Pond watcher and timid and twin talon together. [00:32:49] Speaker D: Pond watcher, give me a performance check. What did I do? [00:32:53] Speaker A: Huh? What did I do? [00:32:54] Speaker H: If Sareia stops me, I'll not do it. If she stops me. But my instinct is to whip it out like, well, it's time for tuba. Everyone, look. [00:33:05] Speaker E: Time for that lovely, romantic instrument of that. [00:33:09] Speaker A: Pimmet's going to try very hard to allow him to play the tuba. So he's going to try to intercept Sereaya as she comes. [00:33:22] Speaker H: A private concert for you with the tuba is what you desire? [00:33:28] Speaker A: No, I think everyone should share. My ear. [00:33:33] Speaker D: My ear. [00:33:36] Speaker H: She's got both of our ears. She's so strong. [00:33:41] Speaker E: Marching off to a secluded area. [00:33:45] Speaker D: Silver. [00:33:46] Speaker E: All right. [00:33:47] Speaker D: Starts to play. And he rolled a nine. [00:33:52] Speaker E: Oh, no. [00:33:52] Speaker D: With his plus 13 to his performance. Okay, it's a 22. [00:33:59] Speaker E: Okay, fine. [00:34:00] Speaker D: And he starts to play what I'm going to call a romantic bayou song. [00:34:09] Speaker E: Oh. [00:34:13] Speaker G: Gators. [00:34:14] Speaker E: So she's going to try to explain to everyone. She grabs twin talon to what Nikita has asked them. I thought maybe we could stage it by saying we want to thank them for everything. As it was Akosa that took you all on the hunt. And Jahasi was the first one to take us to the village. And do any of you have any ideas on how to. I don't know how to get them to kind of realize that one of them needs to make the first move. Because they're both clearly very invested in this and just won't say anything about it. [00:34:46] Speaker A: Why don't we get them drunk? [00:34:48] Speaker E: Yes, I was going to ask you for drinks. Brianna is off to get a nice, lovely slice of four. So nice choice piece of meat so they can maybe have a nice dinner. [00:34:59] Speaker G: Normally, I think timid's suggestion to drink is typically out of place. But I think this is a perfect example of where that would come in handy. [00:35:07] Speaker E: I think so. I think so very much. [00:35:10] Speaker G: I bet about half the people in this village were consummated over drunken. [00:35:16] Speaker E: Isn't that true anywhere? [00:35:17] Speaker A: When you say out of place, do you mean, like, when is drinking never ever out of place? [00:35:24] Speaker E: We'll discuss that later. [00:35:26] Speaker G: Talent will clap him on the shoulder and kind of clank. Mugs. [00:35:34] Speaker H: Is there any way to make the weather very cold so that they must huddle together in a small igloo or some sort of shelter? Because that is mostly how my people would get stuck and have nothing more to do. My other suggestion is maybe the tuba. [00:35:58] Speaker E: Why don't you and twin Talon go speak to Okotha and see if you can't ask him about Jahasi. Ask him why he was out to meet us and what he thinks of him and see if we can't maybe get his mind going in that direction. [00:36:12] Speaker H: You mean like ask him, hey, do you like Jahasi for no, no, ask him. [00:36:19] Speaker E: Twin Talon, can you help me? I thought you said Bonwatcher was subtle. [00:36:24] Speaker H: What? [00:36:25] Speaker F: No. [00:36:27] Speaker G: Who said that twin Talon was subtle? [00:36:29] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:36:30] Speaker H: Oh, so we're trying to be sneaky? Okay, I understand that. [00:36:34] Speaker E: We're not going to walk up to him and just be like, oh, you two should fuck. That's not how this is going to happen. [00:36:40] Speaker H: Because it's a secret. It's a state secret. [00:36:44] Speaker E: Okay, sure, fine. They both like each other, but neither one will say it first, so we need to get it. [00:36:54] Speaker H: Okay, I'm sorry. I didn't understand. I know what that's like. [00:36:58] Speaker E: Oh, really? Is there someone you like? [00:37:00] Speaker H: No. [00:37:02] Speaker D: With that, Niketia moves into the middle of the room and quietly claps as silver finishes his song. Come children of the leopard clan. Nakedia's voice calls out clear and strong above the sounds of the festivities. Come children of the leopard clan. Nakedia's voice calls out clear and strong above the sounds of the festivities. Dusk has fallen. Let us call a moth to tell us a story. As one, the ekuje stand and hold their hands cupped in front of them, each conjuring a ball of light into their palms. I have caught a little moth, Niketia says dramatically, clutching the air in front of her. It has a story to tell. There's a story of great darkness. We will listen. The others reply in unison. There once was a time of anguish, a time of destruction, a time of night so dark that even moths refused to fly. From a hole in this night came a great darkness who saw the world suffer, and through only that it wanted to see more suffering. The darkness sought to burn all that remained until there was nothing left but ashes. The first people that the darkness found were brave people who stood before the darkness with their weapons and did not run. The darkness sought to destroy them, saying, you shall fall before me, for I am death and I am fire. But the people were not afraid and replied, you shall not break us, for we are the guardians of this land who stand to defend it when all others fled. Oh, what a terrible battle it was. The people shattered their spears against the darkness again and again. But no living being could pierce its hide. At last, the greatest amongst the people, the kindest, the most righteous, gave their lives to forge their souls into weapons for the people to wield. Oh, how their souls burned like bright coals in the night. The people took up the souls of those they had most loved, and in wrath split the skin of the darkness. They spilled the blood of the darkness across the whole of their land. They broke the horn and teeth from the darkness and flung them into the sea. Yet still the darkness would not die. The people forced the darkness back into the place from whence it had emerged. The people trapped it in the space between spaces. The people swore they would stand guard so that the darkness could never escape to threaten the land again. Could the people imprison the darkness forever when even the best among them could not defeat it? Was it foolish to expect them to try? Nakedia pauses, then says, that is the story that we have been given. We will remember. The other ikuje reply. With that, Niketia steps down from the center of the room, and the lights are released from all of their hands and they float up, creating a rainbow of colors floating above. With that, the music picks up again, and you are all able to go back to what you were doing. [00:40:34] Speaker A: Okay, so Tevit has an idea. He walks up to twin Talon and he pulls out a couple of copper pieces from his pouch, and he says, so when I give you the signal, and you'll know it when you see it, drop these in their mugs. So then he goes up to the stage and he kind of clinks on his mug and tries to get everyone's attention. And he stands there, he says, I've got a story to tell you. And then there's going to be an instance where basically these mugs of ale are handed out, and whoever has these two mugs of ale in their hand or in their mugs, fate has decided that they're connected in some way. [00:41:21] Speaker H: Oh, like the king cake. [00:41:23] Speaker A: Well, yeah, right. Exactly like the king cake. [00:41:25] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:41:25] Speaker G: What if you find the baby Jesus? [00:41:27] Speaker H: Then you got to fuck whoever else has the baby Jesus. [00:41:32] Speaker G: I think that's how it is. [00:41:33] Speaker H: Yeah, that's how we always did it in my town. [00:41:36] Speaker D: All right, you guys can go ahead and go about this. So as Teman goes up and clinks his glass, the crowd falls to a murmur. [00:41:45] Speaker A: Thank you for your attention, everyone. I've got a story to tell. [00:41:47] Speaker H: And also, it's in common, everyone. It's in common. [00:41:51] Speaker A: Yeah, it's in common. And you're all going to understand. [00:41:54] Speaker D: Speak. So as you step up, seraya can translate. [00:41:58] Speaker E: Sareia is going to stand next to. [00:41:59] Speaker D: You and translate for you. Temid steps up and clinks his glass. The noise of the crowd falls to a murmur. [00:42:06] Speaker B: Long ago, there was a clan. Yeah, a clan. Deep in the heart of the Moangi expanse. The people of this clan were content. Their leaders were just. And their land was fertile. Oh, and they drank their filled every single night. Their wine was delicious, with hints of berries and honey and. Wait. [00:42:36] Speaker A: Where was I? [00:42:38] Speaker D: Right. [00:42:39] Speaker B: Every year, when the weather got warm and the butterflies visited their village, they would get together and give thanks to all for their lives and their freedom. And their wine. It was said that the butterflies would find people and bring them together. People with bonds so strong that fate itself had to intervene. One year, two identical, shimmering, bright copper butterflies landed on two of the town leaders. Though it's said to be bad luck. [00:43:17] Speaker D: They shrugged it off. [00:43:18] Speaker B: They had too much going on. They had too many things to worry about. And frankly, they were afraid. Afraid to speak up about their true feelings for one another. Year after year, it was the same. But every year, the land was a little less fertile. And they were a little less free and a little less safe. Worst of all, their wine got weaker. People became restless and chaos reigned. The town split into two factions. One for each of the two leaders that refused to acknowledge how they felt. Both factions left their home and they battled for generations. Many died. And all grew bitter. Even the wine. But one year, as the weather got warm, two warriors who were each out hunting, one for each clan, came across each other. They immediately knew who the other one was. And they fought. They fought for hours. And they each got away. But something called each of them back. And they met again. And they fought again. And once again, they were equal matches for one another. This repeated itself over and over for days. Until one day, a conversation sparked between the two. Something about battle tactics as they grew to anticipate the other's moves. [00:44:37] Speaker A: Almost like it was fate. [00:44:38] Speaker B: But then their conversations became lighter and they started meeting. Not to fight, but to talk. To learn from one another. Their bond grew strong. And every day that they spoke, their wine grew sweeter. As the months passed, they grew more and more anxious to see one another. But neither of them ever spoke up about what they truly felt. It almost seemed as though history was about to repeat itself. But one fateful day, two shimmering copper butterflies landed on them. One on each. They had each heard the story about the copper butterflies. And they knew what it meant, and they each felt what they wanted to say. The tension grew thick. But eventually they spoke both at the same time. Their bond was too strong to deny. They stole moments away from their clan to see each other. And as time passed, more and more began to join. Until they formed their own clan. And the love that they had for one another made that clan strong and prosperous. The land around them was fertile. Their wine was sweet. Everything was good. They were free once again because they let go of the fear and of hatred. And they joined together. And eventually, generations later, the two clans were no more. They were once again a single clan. All because two brave warriors summoned the courage to tell each other how they felt. To accept their love for one another, and in doing so, create a bond that grew so strong that it broke generations of hatred. It is said that when there is a bond so strong that fate must intervene. Look for a sign and you may very well get your answer. And that's when temid points at his mug and winks. Now let us raise a glass and toast to eternal bonds. To friendship. To love. To wine. [00:46:42] Speaker D: As Temid finishes his story, he gives the signal to twin Talon. Twin Talon. Give me a thievery check to see if you can slip the coins into the drink. [00:46:54] Speaker G: 21. [00:46:56] Speaker D: You think you've done it stealthily enough. And you get the coins into their mugs. So everyone goes to drink. And you hear some disappointed sounds coming from the group. And then you hear Akosa and Jahasi both raise their hand and they call out, I have a. And they kind of look and they do that. They kind of both blush. [00:47:19] Speaker A: A connection made by the gods themselves. [00:47:23] Speaker E: It seems you're destined to have your fates intertwined. [00:47:27] Speaker F: Brianna will take this moment to come back with a plate full of meat and be like, not now. We don't need this anymore. Oh, I'm going to put it away. Okay, sorry. [00:47:39] Speaker E: Bye. [00:47:41] Speaker G: Grabs them and she goes away. [00:47:45] Speaker H: I think Pond Watcher will say like, hey, you both got the coins. That means you have the keys. [00:47:53] Speaker D: You hear the clinking of glasses like at a wedding. And you see them both. See them both kind of blush and smile and they kiss. And then you see them walk away and start talking to each other in hush tone. [00:48:13] Speaker E: Saray is going to glance over at bets and Kedia. [00:48:16] Speaker D: Kedia approaches you, smiles and says, thank you so much. I can't believe how dumb they've both been for so long. Temid, that was a beautiful story that you told. [00:48:30] Speaker A: I'm pretty good at lying. [00:48:35] Speaker H: Wait, that wasn't a real story. It was so beautiful. I've never cried so much as when. [00:48:44] Speaker D: I heard that story. [00:48:48] Speaker E: Weeping. [00:48:49] Speaker G: Well, Tammy, it's a good thing you did that. Because everything I know about romance I learned at the frisky unicorn. A temple to the cholestra. [00:49:02] Speaker E: Let me guess. They frequently shorted the name to the fu. [00:49:09] Speaker G: I never got that till right now. [00:49:11] Speaker D: Nikita is looking at all of you going. Is there anything I can do before we retire for the evening? [00:49:19] Speaker F: What shall I do with this plate of meat? I'm just going to put it in front of a table. [00:49:25] Speaker G: Wait. [00:49:25] Speaker F: Come here. [00:49:27] Speaker G: I think Twintown will take it off your hands. Just start eating it. [00:49:30] Speaker F: No. [00:49:31] Speaker H: Quintalon has a taste for meat. [00:49:36] Speaker E: I mean, it was a very frisky unicorn. [00:49:42] Speaker F: The finest temple in all of. [00:49:44] Speaker D: Any questions about the story I told or anything like that? [00:49:50] Speaker G: So what's the darkness? And where is it imprisoned? Is it around here somewhere? [00:49:55] Speaker D: The darkness is probably what you saw between. In the between of the gates. [00:50:09] Speaker H: I have a suggestion. Maybe for future stories, you call it a giant dragon instead of the darkness, because it appeared to be a giant. [00:50:18] Speaker D: Dragon with no friends speaking that name here. [00:50:21] Speaker E: Can I roll the hawk lore and see if that's, like, a title he's used before or anything? 23. What do I know? [00:50:29] Speaker D: You know that the Akuj elves are the ones who defeated Dahawk previously. And they refer to him as the darkness. Because much like Voldemort, no one's power fades if you keep speaking their name. [00:50:51] Speaker E: It's very much unlike Voldemort, where the phrase know fear of a name only increases the fear of the thing itself. Yes. This is more like forget what it's called in Dresden files. The side plot, anyway. The oblivion war. Ha. We're forgetting the name. Yes. T powers the individual. [00:51:15] Speaker H: How much of this do you think Pond Watcher understands? Because I feel like this simile is well beyond him. [00:51:23] Speaker D: Probably none. [00:51:25] Speaker H: If he understood this, he would be, like, all about the. Like he'd love, like, this is his jam. But also, this is very confusing. [00:51:35] Speaker E: Well, Soraya might clarify things as she asks questions. [00:51:39] Speaker H: Yeah, that might help. That might help. So he will just be sitting silently, looking at, like, um, mom, does this make sense to. [00:51:49] Speaker E: No, it's all right, my son. [00:51:53] Speaker H: Although it is an elven, so that does help considerably. [00:51:58] Speaker E: So when the Akuja defeated the darkness, something about the souls of the fighters that went into the weapons that finally harmed the dragon. [00:52:13] Speaker D: There was once a ritual among our people, the Anima invocation, that allowed a truly virtuous person to give up their life and split their soul apart into different spirits. The power of that sacrifice and the integrity of those spirits bolstered our warriors weapons, allowing them to fight back against the darkness. But we no longer know the secrets of the Anima invocation. And so, should the Darkness escape, our people would be defenseless and the first to suffer. [00:52:45] Speaker E: All of the gates in Estella's ring up until now, when we just reopened the hunter's gate, have been closed. Do you think that's how they managed to trap what you're calling the darkness in the spaces in between? Closing those gates, do you think that's what did it? [00:53:00] Speaker D: We only know of this one gate, and we put the darkness into that one gate. We didn't really know what was on the other side. [00:53:15] Speaker G: Wait, so they jammed the darkness into the hunter's gate and closed it? [00:53:19] Speaker D: Yes. [00:53:20] Speaker G: Well, thanks a lot. [00:53:25] Speaker E: Now, I could be completely wrong about this hypothesis, but now I'm wondering if the darkness also managed to split itself in that shade that we saw of it between. If there is a piece of it between all the gates. The space between spaces is much more vast, I'm sure, than just that one area. [00:53:48] Speaker F: Well, wasn't the construct of the thing we saw? I didn't think it was actually the creature itself or even like it was something that was correct, so I'm not sure it's that, but that's a fair assessment. I wonder. So you're saying that they just threw the creature, that the dragon to the other side of the gate? [00:54:21] Speaker E: That's what they're saying. They stuffed him through side and he seemed they caught him in the middle. Is the space between spaces known as anything else? Can I roll Arcana or something for that? [00:54:33] Speaker D: Yes. Give me knowledge. Arcana. It is a very difficult check. [00:54:38] Speaker E: Well, let's see what my plus 13 gets me. [00:54:41] Speaker F: I believe in you, Christine. [00:54:43] Speaker E: 21. [00:54:45] Speaker G: Come on, Bab. [00:54:47] Speaker D: You're not really sure, but you're pretty sure that you are on a different plane when you are traveling between the two doors. So you're on the material plane. You go somewhere else, and then you go to the back to the material plane. You don't know what plane you're on. [00:55:09] Speaker E: That's what she's thinking. Basically that there's that middle space. We saw a small piece of it, but it's connected to something much, much greater. [00:55:17] Speaker G: My only regret is not telling the twin jaguars that my specialty was architecture. [00:55:25] Speaker E: Oh, man. Yes. [00:55:31] Speaker H: Look at this Buttress. [00:55:35] Speaker E: That's a fine buttress. [00:55:39] Speaker H: Wait, so are you saying that every time we go through one of these doors, we'll be attacked by part of a giant dragon God spirit thing. [00:55:48] Speaker E: That is my fear. [00:55:50] Speaker G: Pond watcher, do you have a heart on right now? [00:55:54] Speaker H: No. I tried to fight that one, but then you did some little mumbo jumbo and it disappeared. I was making progress hitting it with my hailbird. [00:56:08] Speaker G: You were doing a great job. [00:56:10] Speaker E: You distracted it long enough that he could destroy it. [00:56:14] Speaker H: Yeah, that's my job. I think next time we go through, I'll just keep punching it in the face and maybe punch it to death. Or you do some flip a lever, I don't know, press a depression plate on the floor. Maybe it falls apart, I don't know. [00:56:33] Speaker E: Did Soraya's line of questioning clear things up enough for pound Watcher? [00:56:36] Speaker H: No. Listen, you tell me there's dragon or darkness or something and I'll go fight it. [00:56:48] Speaker E: Okay? [00:56:48] Speaker H: That's all we need to know. [00:56:51] Speaker D: So, nakedia looks at you. If you have no more questions, I am very tired and we'll be heading to bed. I suggest you all do the same, else you'll be stuck doing dishes. [00:57:03] Speaker G: I'm very tired all of a sudden. [00:57:05] Speaker E: Very tired. [00:57:06] Speaker F: If you need help cleaning, I'm happy to do so. [00:57:12] Speaker D: Oh, no, we have plenty. Plenty of help. [00:57:15] Speaker H: I'm actually vulnerable to dishes. It's my special weakness. So I have to leave. [00:57:21] Speaker D: So with that, you all retire back to your rooms that they've provided you with the smell of cooked boar wafting through the air. And you all lay down for a good night's rest. Except for one of you. Twin Talon. I need a fortitude saving throw. [00:57:48] Speaker F: Oh, no. [00:57:50] Speaker G: It'S not my worst saving throw, but the dice roller really does not like me. I haven't rolled over a ten yet, so that's a five. For a total of 17. [00:58:02] Speaker D: All right, give me another check, please. [00:58:08] Speaker G: Fortitude again. [00:58:08] Speaker D: Yes. [00:58:09] Speaker G: How about 31? [00:58:11] Speaker D: There we go. Yeah, give me one more. [00:58:14] Speaker G: Here's my 1924. [00:58:18] Speaker D: Okay, so as you lay down, something just doesn't feel right. Like your stomach is getting all bubbly and it's not a good feeling. As you lay down, you take four poison damage. [00:58:42] Speaker E: I guess I saved out of it last time because it was me and you that had to do that last time. [00:58:47] Speaker G: I saved last time. [00:58:48] Speaker D: So I don't know you then take, about 1 minute later, you take another three points of poison damage. [00:58:58] Speaker E: Okay, shit is going on. [00:59:00] Speaker D: And then you feel slightly better. What is your perception bonus? [00:59:06] Speaker G: My perception is ten. [00:59:10] Speaker D: All right, what's it? [00:59:11] Speaker F: The cat tongue. [00:59:13] Speaker D: Okay. So I made a secret roll for you. As you're wiping your mouth off from getting sick, you notice that your fingers are slightly, ever so slightly discolored. [00:59:33] Speaker G: Pentana will smell them. Do they have any kind of odor to them? [00:59:37] Speaker D: There is a faint smell of almonds and garlic. [00:59:45] Speaker G: Smells like arsenic. [00:59:48] Speaker E: Oh, shit. [00:59:50] Speaker A: It's what's his face. [00:59:52] Speaker D: It's Alex. [00:59:55] Speaker G: Alex? [00:59:55] Speaker H: Yes. [00:59:56] Speaker G: That guy. Not Alec. [00:59:58] Speaker A: Whatever. [00:59:59] Speaker G: He's dead. [01:00:00] Speaker A: Yeah, Alex. [01:00:01] Speaker G: That's how I would come back. I'd be like, my name's Alex. I'm a different person. [01:00:06] Speaker E: Wink. [01:00:07] Speaker H: I'm a heck knight. [01:00:13] Speaker D: Yes, it does smell like arsenic. [01:00:18] Speaker G: Interesting. [01:00:19] Speaker E: Oh, shit. Weird, crazy ritual thing the guy was doing with Alec's body. [01:00:28] Speaker D: Yep. [01:00:29] Speaker E: Fuck. [01:00:31] Speaker D: Then you fall asleep for the night and sleep very well. [01:00:37] Speaker G: Well, maybe if Alec had better fortitude saves, he would have been fine, too. [01:00:43] Speaker D: Shots fired in the morning, you all wake up. [01:00:49] Speaker G: We're level six. [01:00:50] Speaker D: Feeling invigorated to level six. [01:00:58] Speaker A: How did you know? [01:01:01] Speaker F: He smelled it on his arsenic breath. [01:01:07] Speaker D: Thank you for listening to the Crackdye podcast.
