[00:00:00] Sean: Hello and thank you for downloading the Cracked Die Podcast. I'm your host and GM, Sean, and I'm coming to you from the future. Alright, but on a serious note, I'm popping in before the episode, before the theme music, before anything starts, to let you know that the first four episodes, well, we had a bit of an audio issue and some of our levels were a little bit higher than they should have been, so there's some clipping and distortion. So we've done our best to clean these episodes up and fix them to the best of our ability, but there's only so much we can do. I just want to warn you that the first four episodes do have some sound issues. However, we fix them on episode five, so please bear with us through the first four episodes. Once you get to episode five, the sound quality gets a lot better and we only improve as we get deeper into the story. All right, I'm going to send you back to the recording as we initially released it. So thank you again for downloading and taking the time to listen to this podcast. We really do appreciate it. Now sit back and enjoy the Crack to Die podcast presents the Age of Ashes. [00:01:45] Sean: Welcome to the Cracked Die podcast. My name is Sean. I am going to be your host and GM throughout the course of this podcast. What is the Cracked Die Podcast? Well, to put it simply, we are an actual play podcast playing through the Pathfinder Second Edition Adventure Path: Age of Ashes. What is an actual play podcast? Think of it as a radio drama where one person plays the director and the rest of the cast has to figure out what they're going to do using a set of rules put out by a game company. For us, we're going to use the newly released Pathfinder Second Edition rules produced by Paizo Publishing. As for the story we're playing, we're going to be using the Age of Ashes' Adventure Path, also produced by Paizo. An adventure path is simply six books that give us a story from beginning to end. Me being the game master or director or dungeon master or whatever you want to call it. I've read the books from beginning to end, so I know the way the story is supposed to go. However, how we get to the end is anyone's guess. Currently, the only knowledge the players have is who they are, where they're from, what city they're in, and anything that has happened globally in the past. The way they got this information is they used the Age of Ash's Adventure Path Players Guide, available for free from download at Paizo.com. So if you're really interested in knowing what the players know, feel free to go to that website and download it, take a quick read and see what's going on. Now we want to say thank you for taking your time out of your day to download and listen to our podcast. We know there are a lot of actual play podcasts out there and you giving your time to ours. We really appreciate it. Now, as I said at the beginning, we're using the Pathfinder second edition of Rules. These are new to us as they're new to most people, but if you notice that we're doing something wrong that violates the spirit of the game, please feel free to let us know. You're always welcome to email us at [email protected]. Now, that's enough rambling from me, so please sit back, relax and enjoy the show as we start our journey into the age of ashes. Welcome to the Cracked Die Podcast. My name is Sean and I'm going to be the GM for this adventure path. I go by the pronouns he/him. To my left, I'm going to have the players introduce themselves. [00:04:28] Matt: Hi, my name is Matt. I am a he/him. I am playing Twin-Talon, the Human Shaoanti. Rogue who is also a he/him. [00:04:39] Tich: Hello. My name is Richard. I am a he/him, as is my character Pondwatcher, the Elven Barbarian. [00:04:47] Haya: Hello, I am Haya. I'm playing Brienna, who is a human champion. Both our pronouns are she/her. [00:04:56] Anwar: Hi, my name is Anwar. My preferred pronouns are he/him. I'm playing Temod Sedrill, the Human Cleric, who also goes by he/him. [00:05:06] Aaron: Howdy, I'm Aaron, playing Silver, the Human Bard, and both of us go by he/him. Pronouns. [00:05:13] Christine: Hello, my name is Christine. I will be playing Sareia, the Elven Alchemist who insists she is a Blood mage. And as I'm sure you can assume, we both go by she/her. [00:05:24] Sean: We're also going to have Christine explain some of the safety mechanics that we're going to use during the course of this game. [00:05:29] Christine: So I'm actually really excited. They are in the Pathfinder 2E core book. What we will be using here in this group is known as the X Card. So there's a little hand signal or something in the middle of your table that anyone at any time can tap if they want to exit a scene, if it's just something they can't handle, and I believe it's stated in there, this is not a way to get out of your character dying in combat. This is not a way to not face consequences for something that's happening. This is if you, the player, cannot deal with what's happening in the moment. And that is to be respected and not questioned at any point in time. [00:06:02] Speaker B: Right? So if anyone is uncomfortable with something that is going on, not to save your character's life, but just you personally are uncomfortable, just go ahead and throw up a quick X and there will be no questions asked about why we're moving forward. We'll fade to black and we'll just move on with the story. Is that good with everyone? [00:06:23] Speaker H: Absolutely. [00:06:23] Speaker F: Sounds good. [00:06:24] Speaker B: Great. Now, I will say that we are playing the Pathfinder age of Ashes adventure path, which is the new adventure path for the second edition game that just came out. So I'm very excited about this. I've read everything. I probably don't remember half of it, but it's going to be really fun. I really like some of the new changes, and so we're going to start there. [00:06:52] Speaker I: Welcome to Breech Hill. Nestled in the foot of the five kings mountains in eastern iceker, breech Hill is a thriving town of about 1300 inhabitants. Most of these inhabitants are humans, but if you look around, you're sure to see dwarves, half elves, and gnomes here as well. The town predates the most notable landmark in the area citadel el Taron. Located 1 mile to the northeast of the town. On a low rising hill sits the citadel, a once glorious fortress for the hell knights. The citadel has fallen into ruin over the past eight years since the hell knights left for their new home in Varisia. Hell Knight Hill, as locals call it, has simply become a landmark to find the town. Every month, Riccia holds the Call for heroes. This tradition is a long and proud one for the town. It allows the council to find and hire adventurers both new and old like to tackle any challenges its residents face that fall outside the scope of the town guard's duties. Has a merchant expected a shipment and it's gone missing? Has the shepherd's herd of goats mysteriously died or gone missing in the middle of the night? Well, that's what the Call of Heroes is for, to find and investigate those types of problems. Since this is a monthly event, some town traditions have sprung up around it. Most people who are headed to the call either as heroes or petitioners find themselves at the local bar, the Wizard's grace. This is where we find our potential heroes. [00:08:18] Speaker B: We're all at the wizard's Grace before this meeting starts. It is 09:00 a.m. [00:08:23] Speaker I: The meeting is at noon. [00:08:25] Speaker B: There's the traditional toasts going around the bar. What are you all doing? [00:08:32] Speaker C: I'm sorry, you said it was 09:00 A.m.. [00:08:34] Speaker H: Yes, saturday. No, that's 09:00 P.m on a Saturday. [00:08:41] Speaker B: Yes. No, it is 09:00. A.m.. [00:08:43] Speaker C: Regular crowd shuffles in. [00:08:44] Speaker H: Exactly. [00:08:46] Speaker B: It is not unusual for there to be toasting and drinking this early morning on the day of the Call of heroes. [00:08:54] Speaker F: Or any other day, really. [00:08:55] Speaker B: Or any other day. [00:08:58] Speaker F: So my character is a cleric of Kaden Kalian. So he is going to be sitting at a table surrounded by many people, regaling them with some type of story, and throwing back as many drinks as he can possibly fit in his gullet. [00:09:13] Speaker B: All right. Staying sober at the whole time? [00:09:16] Speaker F: Well, I figure he's drank enough in his life to where he really doesn't. This is kind of like baby's milk for him. Yeah, he's staying hydrated with a lot of ale. [00:09:27] Speaker D: What does your character look like? [00:09:29] Speaker F: He's actually pretty normal looking and pretty nondescript by that I mean, like, he's really average height, average build. He's got kind of like dirty blonde hair, a little bit shorter than shoulder length. He's got a wispy little mustache, kind of trying to look like a slash buckler with a weak little goatee. Other than that, he's just wearing a chain shirt. He's got like tan bronze skin and it's kind of hard to find him without a tankered of Ill in his hand. [00:10:08] Speaker B: So next to you is a rotund man who's keeping up drink for drink with you. [00:10:15] Speaker F: He seems to like this man. [00:10:16] Speaker B: Yes. So tell me that story again. [00:10:22] Speaker F: Which story? [00:10:24] Speaker B: The one where you managed to the one where you managed to save that whole cart full of people. [00:10:34] Speaker F: Well, it was actually pretty interesting. I was out on a walk, taking my morning athletic run, and I came across this building and it was on fire. It looked like there were orphans in the building. It was unbelievable. But next to it was a card of ale. And I decided, well, those orphans are in trouble, but somebody's going to help them. I have to save the card of ale. So I ran towards it, I slid underneath it, I picked it up with my mighty strength, like aridon picking up the StarStone, and I dragged it to safety, away from everybody else. [00:11:13] Speaker B: There's roaris laughter around you as we look around the bar. [00:11:20] Speaker D: And we I think there's a relatively tall, extremely pale, white haired elf watching this happen, who's covered in furs, wearing like a fur vest and no shirt underneath, just watching this story with the huge eyes, huge pupilless eyes, like fascinated. And he approaches and says, this is a very good story. I am embraced that you are able to lift a whole cart by yourself. I am Pond Watcher and it is nice to meet you very much. [00:11:55] Speaker F: Hi pond watcher. I have a seat. Listen, I can tell you more about so many of my adventures. [00:12:00] Speaker D: That sounds like something that would be very good to hear. Thank you. [00:12:03] Speaker F: Do you like ale? [00:12:04] Speaker D: I love ale. [00:12:05] Speaker B: Excellent. [00:12:05] Speaker F: We'll be good friends then. [00:12:07] Speaker D: I don't have very much money, but if you would like to pour some in this horn, I will drink it, please. [00:12:14] Speaker F: Then he just pours some in your horn. [00:12:20] Speaker B: That's amazing. So we continue to scan this bar and we see another Elven folk so. [00:12:29] Speaker H: Nestled in a corner and looking a little disturbed by the amount of noise and people around her is Sorea. She is not quite as pale as Pond Watcher. She looks less like she might have come from a very cold climate, as much as has not seen the light of the sun in a long time. And she has perched on her wrist a very, very strange looking raven. Its feathers look more like it might be flaps of skin and like there might be some kind of weird plant matter as part of its innards. So she is nursing a glass of something and is very interested in watching Pond watcher and eventually Siddles over. I'm assuming he's one of the only other elves she has seen in quite some time. [00:13:12] Speaker B: Yes. The city is full of half elves. Not full, but there's a good portion of half elves, but very few elves are around this area. [00:13:22] Speaker H: I too, would love to perhaps hear some more stories. I haven't had the opportunity in quite some time. [00:13:29] Speaker D: Oh, hello, sister. It is so nice to meet you. I think there is something wrong with your bird. [00:13:35] Speaker H: Oh, no, this is a very special bird. [00:13:38] Speaker D: Oh, that is good to hear. [00:13:41] Speaker H: It looks you over. [00:13:42] Speaker D: Just kind of goes I find this very uncomfortable. [00:13:48] Speaker H: Its feet, now that you get a closer look, look real, real weird. It's doing really dexterous things it shouldn't the wrong raven probably shouldn't do. [00:14:00] Speaker B: So as we continue around the bar. [00:14:05] Speaker G: You see a very old man, human, sort of walks up to the tall, pale elf and goes, all right, your Grace, you forgot your crown. We've been over this. You got to wear it everywhere you go so people know you are the king that was promised. Please put on your crown. [00:14:24] Speaker D: Silver, you know I prefer to wear. [00:14:26] Speaker C: This furry hat with can. [00:14:29] Speaker G: You can wear both just underneath there. But it's very important that everyone knows that you are the king as promised. All right? So I'm glad you're making friends. It's cool, but come on, put on the crown. [00:14:44] Speaker H: Are you holding the crown? [00:14:45] Speaker G: I am holding the crown. [00:14:46] Speaker B: Oh. [00:14:47] Speaker H: The raven is eyeing the crown in my hands. [00:14:50] Speaker G: It's like this gnarly thing that's covered in what used to be blood, and he's just holding it with, like, old man shaky hands. It'silver though, and it's shiny, it is ornate. But he's holding it out towards yep. [00:15:05] Speaker D: Pond Rocher will take the crown, and as he reaches for it, you see, he has kind of strange white and silverish scars all over his skin, which is almost like a Vidaligo type effect. And he grabs it and just says, okay, Silver, yes, I will put on my hat for you. But my friend this is my friend Silver. He is a very interesting man with many other stories, much like you. [00:15:31] Speaker H: While you're talking, the raven is reaching out with a bizarrely shaped foot. It's got its headcocked, and it's eyeing the crown. If you're not putting it on yet. [00:15:41] Speaker D: I put it on and look very scared for a moment. [00:15:45] Speaker H: That's not yours. [00:15:46] Speaker G: You are. [00:15:47] Speaker F: So Temit takes his time to just start pouring without your consent or anything. He just starts pouring ale in your cup. [00:15:53] Speaker G: Well, thank you, sir. [00:15:54] Speaker B: You're quite welcome. [00:15:55] Speaker G: Cleric of Kate and Kalyn. Is that right? [00:15:58] Speaker F: That's right. [00:15:59] Speaker G: All right, well, I got some stories for you. [00:16:02] Speaker F: Excellent. [00:16:02] Speaker G: This is the king who's promised over here. [00:16:07] Speaker D: I shrug. [00:16:09] Speaker F: He looks at him. Well, who's going to tell the story. [00:16:12] Speaker C: All right, so at this point, a young man with a cleanly shaven head, a human kind of tan skin, walks over. He's got a bowl of the tavern's special boar stew with lentils that he is shoveling into his face as if someone would take it from him if he didn't eat it. And he's just kind of looking around and kind of watching everyone and listening. You can also see tattoos coming up his neck, like sticking out of his he's wearing probably very light armor. He's got tattoos coming up out of his neck and down his arms. And he's just kind of wildly looking at like the creepy raven and the elf who is got scarred up arms and this weird old guy who's walking around with a crown covered in blood and the cleric who is clearly lying about everything. And he's just kind of taking in the scene. [00:17:23] Speaker B: So your standard day? Yeah. Okay, good. [00:17:26] Speaker F: So TEMED just pours a mug of ale and just kind of slides over. Wash down your stew with some ale. And then he wants to make sure everyone at the table is drinking. [00:17:40] Speaker B: Okay. [00:17:41] Speaker E: And as the scene is happening, through the door walks a younger woman. She has chestnut brown hair, kind of braided to one side. She seems to be adjusting her breastplate back on and wiping what seems to be either soot or some semblance of ash. It looks like she'd been working out of fire all day. Perhaps she will walk over to the bar and she seems to know the person behind the bar. They extend a few pleasant words. She gets a cup of tea, I believe, at nine in the morning. Good grief, all of you. And recognizes her friend twin talon, waves her hand at him and Siddles over. [00:18:33] Speaker C: Yeah, in between mouthpoles, he's just like, there's a guy here, he's telling lots of crazy stories. [00:18:40] Speaker B: I don't think any of them are true. [00:18:42] Speaker E: Can you please chew and eat that before you choke yourself to death? Please? [00:18:48] Speaker F: No, but it's real good. [00:18:51] Speaker B: You're hungry? Okay. [00:18:52] Speaker E: But your brother is not here to take your food, okay? So just deep breaths, eat slowly. You're going to give yourself indigestion, I think. [00:18:59] Speaker C: I'm going to take deep breaths. I'm going to inhale some lentils or pour. [00:19:02] Speaker E: I'm just going to look, finish this. [00:19:04] Speaker B: Okay? [00:19:05] Speaker E: Enjoy. [00:19:05] Speaker H: Okay. Oh, what with the sound of leathery papery grove? There even comes and lands on the hand that you are holding the tea in. [00:19:19] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, that's the lady's birch. It's definitely messed up. [00:19:23] Speaker H: Seraya rushes over. [00:19:24] Speaker E: Serenity, preserve me. [00:19:25] Speaker B: What is this? [00:19:26] Speaker H: I'm so sorry about Jasper. He's very excited to be around people that aren't me. And you have a cup of tea. Oh, yes, that's his favorite. Don't drink that jasper. That's not yours. Come here, come here. She like hurries him back onto her shoulder. My name is Saraya. How are you? [00:19:41] Speaker E: Pleasure to meet you. I'm Brianna. [00:19:43] Speaker H: Brianna, wonderful. She looks not like she hasn't bathed in a while, but she doesn't necessarily think about brushing her hair too often. Her clothes are nice, but they're old. [00:19:55] Speaker E: Okay. Dated clothes. [00:19:56] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:19:56] Speaker E: Got it. [00:19:57] Speaker B: Thread there. [00:19:57] Speaker H: Just like this woman has not been out in society in a while, so. [00:20:01] Speaker E: I wouldn't necessarily recognize you, per se. [00:20:04] Speaker H: If you're from the area, you probably know about the stories of the crazy elf in the mountains. [00:20:09] Speaker B: Cool. [00:20:10] Speaker H: That is Serea, who has been living here probably since before the town started up. Okay, so doing experiments up in the mountains. [00:20:19] Speaker B: Awesome. [00:20:20] Speaker E: So Brianna will first be sore. Yeah. You say yes. Pleasure to meet you. I feel like we've and she'll look back at twin talent. I feel like we've all heard interesting stories about you, but it's an honor to meet you in person. [00:20:40] Speaker H: As I understand, it's a rite of passage for young children to dare each other to come up near yes. My laboratory. [00:20:46] Speaker E: Yes. [00:20:48] Speaker C: At this point, wide eyes looking between the two of them, scraping the last of the stew from the bowl into his mouth, kind of licking the edge of the bowl. [00:20:56] Speaker H: Jasper the crow, meanwhile, is just kind of like dipping into Sereay's ale, like his head back and drinking. [00:21:04] Speaker G: Now, from what I understand, Your Grace, today's, the call of heroes oh, yes. [00:21:09] Speaker H: That's why I'm here. [00:21:10] Speaker D: Yes. It appears there are many heroes here in the tavern. [00:21:13] Speaker B: And you hear a roar come up. [00:21:17] Speaker D: From yeah, I also love this place. [00:21:21] Speaker B: And shouting. [00:21:24] Speaker C: Both of those things. [00:21:26] Speaker B: The barkeep comes over to come on, Temid. [00:21:31] Speaker F: That's right. [00:21:32] Speaker B: Comes over to Temid. I did a thing, guys. I can remember names. Not well. Wrote it down. [00:21:38] Speaker C: I saw you looking at it. [00:21:41] Speaker B: There's seven of you. I had to pick which one was right. [00:21:43] Speaker F: There are six of you. [00:21:45] Speaker B: I had to pick which one is right. Oh, no. I told you how many things are happening later. Anyway, the barkeeper comes over to Temid and says, sir, can you please provide a blessing for everyone before they head over to the town council for the Call of Heroes? [00:22:02] Speaker F: Why, of course. And he kind of raises his glass, waits for everyone else to raise it. Kind of looks around. Everyone else has I'm waiting for this group to raise their glasses, thank you very much. [00:22:12] Speaker B: The raven raises a weird. [00:22:16] Speaker H: It'S on Soraya's raised wrists. And it's raising a little foot to. [00:22:21] Speaker F: Breach Hill to the Call of Heroes. By the light of the StarStone and then he just kind of they're supposed to be quick anyways. [00:22:31] Speaker B: Yeah, you hear most of the rest of the town echo to the StarStone. It's actually by the light of the StarStone. [00:22:40] Speaker C: Do you direct people when they're like. [00:22:42] Speaker B: Yeah, I think he does. Like, mid drink. By the light of the StarStone. [00:22:45] Speaker F: Keep drinking. [00:22:46] Speaker B: Everyone's got really drunk, though, so kind of comes out. [00:22:50] Speaker C: Yeah, it is already nine. [00:22:52] Speaker H: I mean, they should have been drinking. [00:22:53] Speaker B: Drinking for an hour. [00:22:54] Speaker D: Are you going to drink the water that this tavern provides? I think not. [00:22:59] Speaker F: This is water. [00:23:00] Speaker B: So you guys have about an hour left before noon before everyone meets at the city council. Does anyone have any silver or gold and want to go shopping? Because the town, it is like ten. Everything is open now or it is eleven and everything's open now. You guys can go shopping if you want. It is a prosperous town and most items are available. So mechanically let's talk mechanics here. Any common item can be found in this town. It is right on the waterway. I have provided everyone a map and I'll post a picture of the map on the website. The creek that runs through the middle of town is also a major thoroughfare that transport comes through to get past Breech Hill. So this town is pretty prosperous with where it is. So you can find most common items, a couple uncommon items. Let's talk about it. If you want to buy an uncommon item other than that, you are at the Wizard's Grace, which is number 17 on the map. You are going to be headed to the Breech Hill Town Hall, which is number three on the map, which is down the street. You also know that Monument Circle is the main hub of everything. That's where the shopkeeps are. That's a little bit to your north, but you could still get Town Hall there. It's really close. Yeah, it's centered around a giant well where most of the town's clean drinking water is from. But that's also the market area and shops are there. You could also head over to any of the other shops in Breech Hill, but most of the merchants come kind of gather in Monument Circle to sell simple wares. If you guys don't want to buy anything now, that's totally fine. We can kind of jump ahead to the Call for Heroes. [00:25:06] Speaker H: So Sereaya and Jasper are going to go. [00:25:11] Speaker B: All right. [00:25:12] Speaker H: I think they're going to go and she's going to see if there are any alchemical stalls just to see if she's got some competition or what people have done in her. [00:25:21] Speaker B: I wouldn't call them alchemical stalls, but you can buy your healing savs. That's really all they sell is healing stuff. There's no, like, oh, I need an acid flask or something like that. [00:25:39] Speaker C: There's definitely no poison. [00:25:41] Speaker B: Yes, no poison. [00:25:42] Speaker H: Oh no, I can make that myself. [00:25:44] Speaker G: I have nothing to buy. Okay, so in that hour I'd probably. [00:25:48] Speaker B: Just you can stay and drink more if you want. [00:25:50] Speaker G: Well, I'm an old man. I don't think me drinking would be a good idea. Okay, fair enough. [00:25:58] Speaker F: Well, you're going to drink something because Tebid's handing it to you and it's offensive to him if you don't actually drink something that you're given. [00:26:04] Speaker C: Don't you know you should worry about what offends other people and not care about yourself. [00:26:09] Speaker G: Certainly not in my 70 year old health when they have a rapier. [00:26:13] Speaker F: It might be might behoove you not no, I'm just kidding. But anyways, did anybody else watch the boys? [00:26:20] Speaker H: Anybody else getting serious Homelander vibes? Yes. [00:26:29] Speaker F: I guess everyone's going to walk over at some point to the town hall. Yes. [00:26:33] Speaker B: Does anyone need to buy anything? [00:26:34] Speaker H: Maybe a new set of clothes? [00:26:36] Speaker B: Okay. [00:26:37] Speaker H: As established Surrey's clothes are yeah, you little thread bear. [00:26:40] Speaker B: You are going to in front of the town council, so you can find some common clothes for, like, 50 silver. They're clean. [00:26:50] Speaker H: I have more to spend than that 50 silver. [00:26:52] Speaker B: Jeez. Yeah. Another thing, this is the second edition of Pathfinder. Everything is built on the silver system, even though gold does exist. Everything exists, but everything else is the prices have changed a little bit to. [00:27:06] Speaker C: Silver, but the conversion is still the same as we're used to. Ten silver equals one gold. Ten copper equals one silver. [00:27:12] Speaker B: So if anyone needs to buy clothes you're buying clothes. Yes. [00:27:16] Speaker H: I would like to update my wardrobe. [00:27:17] Speaker B: Okay, so you can actually find really nice clothes for I was wrong. You can find really nice clothes for ten silver. You can find common, average clothes for, like, five, or you can get new rags for one. [00:27:33] Speaker H: Is there anything above the ten silver? [00:27:36] Speaker B: Not really. Unless you're going to go, like, raid the nobles closet. [00:27:41] Speaker C: I'm sure someone will sell you something. [00:27:43] Speaker B: You can if you want. But I want these rags. But for ten silver. Yes, exactly. [00:27:49] Speaker H: All right, well, she's going to look for something sort of flowy. She likes dresses and gowns, so something probably tight to the elbow and loose. [00:27:58] Speaker B: After that area that you're in, you're at the bottom of a mountain, so it is a little bit. It's not like super cold and you're on the water, but it is chillier here. But yeah, you can find something like that easily. [00:28:12] Speaker H: She'll layer up. That's totally fine. [00:28:14] Speaker B: So just mark ten silver off your sheet. [00:28:16] Speaker H: She has a nice red and black ensemble. [00:28:18] Speaker B: Yes. And they even offer you, like, a bathhouse type deal, so you could wash yourself if you wanted to. It's like a spa with clothes. [00:28:26] Speaker C: Please, before you put our clothes on, take a shower. [00:28:29] Speaker H: I shower. [00:28:30] Speaker C: We don't regular advertise that smelly. People wear our clothes. [00:28:35] Speaker F: Regular can mean once a month, too. Just every single month? [00:28:38] Speaker H: At least once a week. And I don't do a lot of moving. I don't sweat very. Yes. She enjoys spending some time in the sauna. Jasper flaps around and melts. She does not melt, actually. So as they're in the bath, no one else is probably here to see this, but he gives himself a little bird bath and sprouts some new growth on his back, which he flies over to her and shudders off. And he can provide her with a batch of infused reagents a day because he's her familiar. [00:29:11] Speaker B: Oh, nice. [00:29:12] Speaker H: It's better than him regurgitating them. [00:29:13] Speaker B: Yes. All right. [00:29:14] Speaker F: That is a nice way to actually have it happen. [00:29:16] Speaker H: Yeah. Takes a little bath and grows a little bit and goes, oh, hey, you can have these now. [00:29:22] Speaker B: So anyone else doing anything before? [00:29:24] Speaker D: Yes. Pond Watcher gets a little too drunk and then decides that he needs to go for a jog. So he leaves all of his stuff, including the crown, on the table of the bar, and just sprints out of the tavern. And during his little circuit, he goes by whatever blacksmith weapon store or whatever, and sees a bastard sword. [00:29:46] Speaker B: Sure. [00:29:46] Speaker D: And he's like, oh, my God, I've never seen anything like this in my life. And he gives almost all of his remaining money to the person to purchase it and then carries it back with no scabbard or anything. And it's just like a kid, like, yeah. [00:29:59] Speaker H: Okay, what's going to happen if he sees a two hander? [00:30:03] Speaker B: So basically on the map here, you sprint up to Vuskar's carts and wheels, which is also the smith. Okay. [00:30:15] Speaker D: This is a strange cart with the sword handle on it. [00:30:18] Speaker B: Okay. [00:30:19] Speaker H: That is literally all the way across. [00:30:22] Speaker D: I'm very fast. [00:30:23] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:30:24] Speaker F: He killed Barbarian. [00:30:26] Speaker B: And then he comes back down to the wizard's Grace with this new weapon, Silver. [00:30:32] Speaker D: I gave him lots of my money, and he gave me this giant sword. [00:30:37] Speaker G: You and I are going to have to talk about budgeting going forward, especially. You're going to be a king. All right, we'll get into it later. [00:30:48] Speaker F: So Temit sees this and he goes, that's a nice sword. And he kind of walks up to it, and then he kind of, like, kind of rubs, and he says, you went over to what's it called again? Vusker's carts and wheels to get this right. [00:31:01] Speaker D: Yes. [00:31:02] Speaker F: So you must have passed cadence Keg. That's where I normally go. I don't normally go to this little tavern here. I normally go to Cadence Keg. You should check it out if you. [00:31:10] Speaker B: Like the ale here. [00:31:11] Speaker F: It's kind of like in comparison, it's kind of like watered down baby vomit compared to the Cadence Keg. [00:31:17] Speaker D: You're not supposed to drink that. [00:31:19] Speaker F: Yes, exactly. [00:31:20] Speaker D: Unless you've run out of water, because there's nowhere to get water because you live in a desert. [00:31:25] Speaker F: This is true. And then he kind of looks over at Silver is like, this is an odd one, isn't it? [00:31:29] Speaker G: It's a long story. It starts with me being trapped in the land of the mammoth lords, and then I ended up in Arcadia. It's just an old man going to. [00:31:40] Speaker F: Start rambling at you unless you stop him for once. Temid's actually speechless for a second. He's like, what? Anyways, you should check it out. We'll go there after this little meeting here. [00:31:54] Speaker D: Yeah, this is good. Thank you. I love you. [00:31:59] Speaker F: Well, then, thank you. [00:32:00] Speaker D: That is what people say. [00:32:03] Speaker F: Some people do say that. [00:32:04] Speaker D: Yes. Okay, good. [00:32:07] Speaker F: Okay, I'm going to go over there now. [00:32:11] Speaker B: All right. Is anyone else doing anything for the remainder of the hour before? [00:32:17] Speaker E: Just a comment? Pond Watcher, I wish you had spoken to me before you, I don't know, ran across town and got a sub password. Since my family also makes weapons, that's clearly not one of ours. [00:32:31] Speaker D: Oh, no. I did not know this. [00:32:34] Speaker E: Next time, okay? [00:32:40] Speaker H: You're throwing so much shade with your face. [00:32:44] Speaker D: It makes Podwatcher kind of sheepish. This, like, ripped guy is like and. [00:32:51] Speaker H: She'S like, five four. [00:32:53] Speaker E: She's just like, interesting. You, big tall person. You should have just talked to me. [00:32:58] Speaker D: It was sort of a spur of a moment thing as I was I saw it as I ran. Now I feel embarrassed. I'm going to sit down now. [00:33:07] Speaker B: It's okay. [00:33:08] Speaker E: You enjoy your butter knife next time we'll talk. [00:33:12] Speaker B: Wow. Okay. [00:33:15] Speaker F: Enjoy the butter knife while you drink the baby vomit. [00:33:19] Speaker E: Welcome, fond watcher. [00:33:21] Speaker B: Welcome to Breech Hill. [00:33:23] Speaker G: Breach Hill, like in a movie you. [00:33:25] Speaker C: Do is. [00:33:31] Speaker B: Everyone from the bar kind of starts to filter out towards the town hall. I'm assuming you all head that way. That's where the call for heroes is. And again, this is a very ancient tradition in the city. The doors will not open till noon. You get there about 15 minutes ahead of schedule. Everyone's out there, you see, the whole town basically has shown up to this. [00:33:58] Speaker C: A lot of heroes in town. [00:33:59] Speaker B: You don't know if well, so that's the thing. It might be heroes. It might be people bringing their problems to the council to hire heroes for them. You see that there are kids here. This is basically Comic Con for this place. Like, their parents pushing their children towards the tall pupilist guy with this weird elf scars on his arm. Like, go say hi to the hero. Go say hi to the hero. [00:34:26] Speaker C: I feel like those are bad parents. [00:34:30] Speaker B: Go talk to them. [00:34:32] Speaker F: That unwashed guy with all that blood and the sword in his hand, and go ahead and talk to him. [00:34:37] Speaker B: So you see, people are really excited to see who steps up as heroes. This is a big deal. Every month while you're there, you see a well dressed goblin pacing in front of the doors of the building. This studious goblin has her hands clasped behind her back, and she's mumbling to herself, oblivious to all who stand nearby. Anyone who wants to if you have the society skill, please roll a 20 sided die and let me know what. [00:35:20] Speaker C: You get with our mod. [00:35:23] Speaker B: Yes, please. [00:35:25] Speaker C: I didn't roll very well, but I got 13. [00:35:26] Speaker B: Okay. [00:35:27] Speaker D: If we're trained, you mean? [00:35:28] Speaker F: Yes. What are we doing specifically? Are we recalling knowledge? [00:35:33] Speaker G: Are you trained society? [00:35:35] Speaker B: No. [00:35:35] Speaker F: I just want to know why. Okay, well, then it's not you trained. [00:35:38] Speaker B: 22 22 sean 22 813. Anyone else? Anyone else? Okay, you're trying to figure something out, because the two of you who rolled above a twelve, you hear her mumbling to herself, and you hear my bramble Brashers. Why haven't I heard from my bramble Brashers? Are my people trapped in the citadel. And the two of you who rolled above a twelve, remember that the bramble Brashers are a small local goblin tribe that lives in the citadel. Altrine, the one that was abandoned by the hell knights, they are pretty benign. They actually trade with the town. And you know that there is a goblin who doesn't sit on the council but works as a liaison between the tribe and the town to keep everything good between them. [00:36:44] Speaker C: Is it this person that we're looking at? [00:36:46] Speaker B: Yes, most likely. [00:36:48] Speaker G: All right. [00:36:49] Speaker B: If you're from the town yes. [00:36:50] Speaker C: You would know that this I've been here a couple. [00:36:52] Speaker H: Okay. [00:36:54] Speaker G: I'll approach this goblin woman. Okay. And I will say now, I know this is the day for calling the heroes and all that, but even if that weren't the case, I could tell you're going through a little bit of a hard time here. Now, I would like to extend an ear if you need it, to hear your troubles and offer the services of the king who was promised pond watcher. And then he'll point over to the tall, nordic looking elf. [00:37:29] Speaker D: He's just kind of poking his sword into the dirt over and over. [00:37:34] Speaker G: Like I said, king who was promised. We're getting there. [00:37:39] Speaker B: You're an adventurer. [00:37:40] Speaker G: Well, I have adventured all around the world, monites say. [00:37:46] Speaker B: Well, I hope the heroes you're just the type of person I was hoping would be here. I hope the council accepts my bid to hire you on my behalf, but there is a system in place. She tries to compose herself. There is a system in place for a reason. Come with me when the meeting starts and listen to my petition. If you're up for the task, you could offer your services to help us out, and then the council might accept that, and then they would hire you. You might be my only hope. [00:38:31] Speaker G: I'm going to take out my guitar, which is just strapped to my back, and I'm going to play a soothing spell for her. It's just going to calm her down, make her feel less anxious. [00:38:44] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. She kind of stops pacing. She's been pacing so much, there's kind of like a line in the dirt in front of the council's hall. You can tell she's been here for a while, just waiting. [00:38:55] Speaker F: Waiting. [00:38:56] Speaker G: I'll say. Now, regardless of what the town council says, we'll help you out. [00:39:01] Speaker B: No. If they don't accept my plea, then I will handle it myself. There is a reason that everything is in place, ma'am. [00:39:07] Speaker G: This is called the call of heroes. Heroes don't look for gold or glory. It's about doing what's. [00:39:16] Speaker C: Point while this has been going on yes. Twin talon will lean over to, like, see that goblin up there? [00:39:25] Speaker E: Yes. [00:39:25] Speaker C: The mumbling one? [00:39:27] Speaker E: Yes. [00:39:28] Speaker C: I think she's the liaison between the goblin tribe that's in the old Hellnight Fortress and the town council. She seems nervous, like no one's seen from the goblins in a while. [00:39:40] Speaker E: Her bramble brushers. [00:39:42] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:39:43] Speaker C: So maybe if we're lucky, she'll be one of the people looking to get heroes and we'll be able to check out the Hell Knight Fortress, maybe get some money or some glory. Also to check out the fortress itself. [00:39:57] Speaker G: I'm interested. [00:39:58] Speaker C: What the hell? Knight's been left behind. [00:40:01] Speaker E: I certainly know you have your interest in the old Hell Knights and what they left behind. [00:40:10] Speaker B: Yeah. Sorry. [00:40:11] Speaker F: Have we gotten her name yet? [00:40:12] Speaker B: No. [00:40:14] Speaker F: So Temid steps up and he's like. [00:40:16] Speaker C: But this was happening, like, off to the side. [00:40:18] Speaker F: Yeah, I mean, obviously he didn't hear what you guys were saying. [00:40:21] Speaker B: No. You don't know what the goblin's name a very if you want a better description, because I realized I didn't kind of give you one. She has a very bright green skin with two dangling diamond shaped earrings. They're silver. A large blue hat that kind of extends the brim extends beyond her ears. She's wearing a white shawl with a blue collar and a large silver butterfly necklace. [00:40:55] Speaker H: Oh, you know, Jasper's going to right, fly over and start hawking all the silver. [00:40:59] Speaker C: That's something that somebody with religion might know. [00:41:01] Speaker B: Who. Yeah. If you're trained in religion, go ahead. And even if you're not trained in religion, you can make the roll for this one. [00:41:08] Speaker F: It's a recall knowledge. [00:41:09] Speaker B: Yeah, it's a recall knowledge. [00:41:12] Speaker F: All right. [00:41:13] Speaker H: Damn it. I have rolled two natural ones. My first three rolls have been 120. [00:41:17] Speaker E: Look at them out of the way now. [00:41:18] Speaker B: 22, 716 16, 421, 21. [00:41:25] Speaker E: And I like how my dice are just reinforcing. [00:41:28] Speaker H: My character has not been in society in like, decades. [00:41:31] Speaker B: Thank you. Yes. [00:41:34] Speaker E: Ten. [00:41:35] Speaker B: I win. Ten are up. You know that this butterfly is most likely the symbol of Desna. [00:41:42] Speaker F: So seeing this, Temid immediately feels more comfortable. She's definitely probably someone that's good natured. [00:41:54] Speaker C: Definitely probably. [00:41:56] Speaker F: Which shows my ability to speak. [00:42:01] Speaker B: I think that's a new status condition. Definitely probably. [00:42:03] Speaker F: Anyways, so he walks up to her and he says, ma'am, I'm sorry, but we haven't introduced ourselves. My name is Timid. What's your name? [00:42:11] Speaker H: Before she can answer, leathery crow lands in front of her. Just stares at her necklace, earrings, friend. [00:42:21] Speaker F: Jasper. [00:42:21] Speaker H: Jasper. [00:42:26] Speaker B: Please allow me to introduce myself. She takes a deep breath. The music has definitely helped calming her down. My name is Warble. I am the ambassador to the Bramble brasher goblins of Hell Knight Hill. It is my honor to serve my fellow citizens of Breech Hill as the town's official representative to the Bramble Brashers. I commune with the Bramble Brashers, convey the town's concerns and interests to she. As you can tell, this is very rote with what she's saying because this is very prepared. She's very prepared to explain why she's a goblin. Yeah, exactly. [00:43:06] Speaker F: That's important. [00:43:06] Speaker B: Yes, it is. I mean, I am to convey the town's concerns and interests to them and advocate on the tribe's behalf, a duty I take very seriously. I am here today and my rather distracted nature earlier, that's why I'm here today. I haven't heard from them for a while and I'm concerned, and that is why I'm here today. I'm sorry that I'm rather distracted. I hope you'll forgive me. [00:43:33] Speaker F: Warble, there's no need to apologize. And if we can help it, I think we'd be happy to try to help you. We'll try to get on your case. [00:43:42] Speaker H: In goblin Sareya, who is still ushering Jasper onto her shoulder. Again, I'm so sorry for his behavior, ambassador, but yes, as another citizen of the mountains, we would love to help. And she's saying this all in goblin. [00:43:58] Speaker B: Cool. She looks kind of shocked that you're speaking to goblin to her. And she's about to say something as she's about to respond to you in goblin. A loud bell sounds signaling noon. The doors open into the call for heroes. The crowd filters into the building, and the children run off to go play. You see that there's about 40 people who have come into this council room. Two guards stand outside the door just to be safe, and the council chamber. There are five seats that are empty. Currently, the room has been set up as an auditorium with a carpet down the middle and two rows of pews. Essentially, there are about 40 people in the town center, and the councilors enter into the room with a sharp rasp from the gavel onto the desk. A stern dark haired woman with deeply furrowed forehead and kind eyes brings the assembled crowd to hush. Welcome, neighbors and friends, the dark haired woman begins, her rich voice washing over the room. I am council president Greta Gardenia, at your service. On behalf of my colleagues beside me, I promise you that we will hear all and consider today's petitions with the utmost discretion and care. There is no existence without community, as our town charter says. Today, our agenda includes one petition. Ms. Warble, our very own ambassador to the Bramble Brashers of hell, Knight Hill, requests the help of heroes for a matter of the utmost importance. Let's hear her concerns in her own words, shall we, Miss Warble? At the summons, Warble emerges from the front row of benches. A well dressed goblin woman makes her way to the foot of the diocese steps. She clears her throat and begins to address the council. Esteemed counselors, warble says with a frazzled tone to her voice, it has been more than a month since I have been able to contact the Bramble Brashers. I feel something terrible has befallen them. What more, I have seen my people's distress signal coming from the top of citadel adrienne. Before the goblin can continue her petition, the door on the western side of the room flies open. A young man, his eyes wide in panic, runs through shouting, waving his inked stained hands billowing black smoke and flames follow him into the room. Fire. There's a fire. Everyone flee. And with that, the room bursts into a panic. [00:46:49] Speaker H: No. [00:46:57] Speaker I: Will they be able to put out the fire? Or shall they burn in this building?
